The
Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences provides pharmaceutical education of
excellent quality to students with high academic, scholarship and leadership
potential in the Pharm.D. and Ph.D. degree programs. The students will be equipped
with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to deliver contemporary
pharmaceutical care or to pursue advanced training to become pharmaceutical
scientists and/or educator to meet the changing demands of the society. Faculties
in the department have expertise in medicinal and computational chemistry,
natural products, physical pharmacy, formulation, drug delivery, biopharmaceutics
and pharmacokinetics
Research programs are one of department's main areas of focus. Students enrolled in the graduate program will have a state-of-the art research facility which includes cell culture, synthesis, formulation and pharmacokinetic labs. The department has a Center for Drug Research and Development, a cGMP facility with Dr. Emmanuel Akala as its Director. The department offers graduate teaching assistantship to qualified students along with a tuition waiver on a competitive basis.
