Executive weekend and orientation overview

Executive Weekend One

Saturday and Sunday
This portion of the executive weekend is devoted to teaching you how to use the technology necessary to be successful within the program. Topics discussed include effective Internet search strategies, review of databases and drug literature evaluation, an in-depth review of the non-traditional homepage, passwords and security, downloads and plugins, conferencing, and online real-time communications.

Between executive weekend one and two:
A series of online activities will be scheduled that will require you to view self-study materials on drug-literature evaluation and pharmaceutical care and outcomes and participate in some threaded, non-real time discussions of each of the topics. In addition, pre-readings will be assigned to prepare you for the pharmacokinetics and physical assessment portions of the second executive weekend.

Executive Weekend Two

You are required to bring a calculator that is capable of log/exponential functions in order to do some pharmacokinetic calculations. You are not required to bring any textbooks for this weekend, although you should have already purchased those required.

This executive weekend is devoted to teaching elements of patient and physical assessment, an overview of pharmacokinetics, and a discussion about the online virtual case-based learning that is discussed in each team of six. In addition, you will be introduced to the online testing software.

Between executive weekend two and end of the orientation:
A series of online activities will be scheduled that will require you complete and post several pharmacokinetics problem-sets, to review self-study materials on clinical research methods, and to participate in some threaded, non-real time discussions. You will also be given a chance to practice with the online testing to become familiar with using the computer to take your exams.
